Nurseries/Development :

GIT maintains 4 big nurseries in both Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka states. And from these nurseries the Trust develop its prestigious projects’ saplings need. Many tree species like teak, kanuka, soapnut, custard apple, velaga, neem, maddi, siva pathri, jack fruit, pongamia, palm trees, mango, and many species that can cope-up with the drought; temple tree, baobab, mountain ebony, coral tree, belleric myrabolan, rio grande, trumpet flower, tamarind, cork tree, pongam, Indian laburnum, rusty shield bearfr, casuarina, lignum vitae, babul, banyan tree, etc.

Why GIT Raises Nurseries:
he project would encourage non-commercial farm forestry in the target areas. Individual farmers will be encouraged to plant trees on their own farmland to meet the domestic needs of the family. Non-commercial farm forestry is more outcome-oriented in any social forestry project and agro-forestry over the villages. It is not always necessary that the farmer grows trees for fuel wood, but very often they are interested in growing trees without any economic motive like they may want it to provide shade for the agricultural crops; as wind shelters; soil conservation or to use over wasteland.

Community Forestry
The project would also adopt community forestry where trees will be raised on community land and not on private land as in farm forestry. The aim is to provide benefits for the entire community and not for any individual. The project will provide seedlings/fertilizers and the government line departments, with which the project would make linkages, provide but the community has to take responsibility of protecting the trees. The communities would manage the plantations in a sensibly and in a sustainable manner so that the village continues to get benefits. (Community Structures: Eco-Development and Conservation Committees – EDCC).

Extension Forestry
Under this method the project would be planting of trees on the sides of roads, canals and railways, along with planting on wastelands is known as ‘extension’ forestry, increasing the boundaries of forests. Under this project tree plantation will be developed in the village common lands, government wastelands and Panchayat lands.

Agro- Forestry
The project would also promote planting of trees that are fruit bearing, medicinal plants and aromatic etc. on and around agricultural boundaries, and on marginal, private lands, in combination with agricultural crops.
